Social Security Payment Schedule November 2026: Exact Dates

Social Security pays on November 3, 10, 18 and 25, 2026, depending on your birthday or when you started benefits. Birthdays on the 1st–10th get paid Tuesday, November 10, one day early, because the usual second Wednesday, November 11, is Veterans Day. Birthdays on the 11th–20th are paid November 18, and the 21st–31st on November 25. SSI is paid Friday, October 30.

Key takeaways

  • Birthdays on the 1st–10th are paid Tuesday, November 10, not Wednesday, because November 11 is Veterans Day, a federal holiday.
  • Birthdays on the 11th–20th are paid November 18. Birthdays on the 21st–31st are paid November 25.
  • If you got Social Security before May 1997, or get both Social Security and SSI, Social Security arrives November 3.
  • SSI for November arrives Friday, October 30, because November 1 is a Sunday. SSI for January 2027 arrives December 31.
  • People paid on the 4th Wednesday wait 35 days between December 23 and January 27, a long stretch to budget for.

If you get Social Security, one November payment is not landing on the day you may expect. Veterans Day falls on a Wednesday this year, and that shifts the payment date for millions of people by one day.

Here are the exact dates for November and December, who gets paid when, and a simple way to plan around the long wait at the end of the year.

What are the Social Security payment dates in November 2026?

Social Security does not pay everyone on the same day. Your date depends on your birthday, or on when you started getting benefits. The Social Security Administration (SSA) publishes the full calendar in its Schedule of Social Security Benefit Payments for 2026.

Who November 2026 December 2026
Started benefits before May 1997, or get both Social Security and SSI (Social Security part) Tue, Nov 3 Thu, Dec 3
Birthday on the 1st–10th Tue, Nov 10 Wed, Dec 9
Birthday on the 11th–20th Wed, Nov 18 Wed, Dec 16
Birthday on the 21st–31st Wed, Nov 25 Wed, Dec 23
SSI (Supplemental Security Income) Fri, Oct 30 Tue, Dec 1

The “birthday” is the one on the Social Security number that the benefit is paid under, as SSA explains on its monthly payments page. If you get benefits on a spouse’s or parent’s record, use their birthday.

Why is the November 10 payment a day early?

The 1st–10th group is normally paid on the second Wednesday of the month. In November 2026 that is the 11th, which is Veterans Day, a federal holiday on the OPM holiday list.

SSA’s rule is that when a scheduled Wednesday falls on a federal holiday, benefits are paid on the first earlier day that is not a holiday. That makes it Tuesday, November 10. Nothing is lost. It is just one day sooner.

Why does SSI come on October 30?

SSI pays on the 1st of the month. When the 1st lands on a weekend or holiday, SSA says benefits are paid the business day before. November 1 is a Sunday, so November’s SSI arrives Friday, October 30.

The same rule matters in December. January 1, 2027 is a holiday, so January’s SSI is paid Thursday, December 31. SSI arrives on December 1 and December 31, so December can show two deposits. That is not a duplicate.

How long is the wait between payments?

Most months have four weeks between payments, but not all. Take a real-life illustration. Say your birthday is the 25th, so you are paid on the 4th Wednesday, and your benefit is $1,200 a month (an example, not an average).

Payment Days since last payment
Wed, Oct 28
Wed, Nov 25 28
Wed, Dec 23 28
Wed, Jan 27 35

The 4th Wednesday in January 2027 is the 27th, per SSA’s 2027 calendar. The math for budgeting: $1,200 ÷ 28 days = $42.86 a day, but $1,200 ÷ 35 days = $34.29 a day if you have to stretch the December 23 payment all the way to January 27.

So if you are in the 4th-Wednesday group, set aside part of the December payment for the extra week. The same gap applies to other groups, with different dates.

Will the 2027 COLA change my payment date?

No. The cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) changes how much you get, not when. SSA’s 2027 COLA fact sheet confirms a 3.6% COLA for 2027. Last year’s raise was applied to benefits for December, paid in January, and the same timing is expected this time. On a $1,200 benefit, 3.6% is $43.20, for $1,243.20 a month.

What to do now

  1. Find your group. Check your birthday, or the one on the record you are paid under, against the table above.
  2. Mark your calendar. Write down your November and December dates, including October 30 if you get SSI.
  3. Plan for the long gap. If you are paid on the 4th Wednesday, budget the December 23 payment to last until January 27. Use our budget calculator to split it by week.
  4. Check your direct deposit. Make sure your bank account details are current with SSA so a payment is not delayed.
  5. Wait three extra days before calling. SSA asks you to allow three additional mailing days if a payment does not arrive when expected.
  6. Look ahead. See how a bigger check fits your long-term plan in the retirement calculator.

Frequently asked questions

When does Social Security pay in November 2026?

It depends on your birthday. Birthdays on the 1st–10th are paid Tuesday, November 10. Birthdays on the 11th–20th are paid Wednesday, November 18, and birthdays on the 21st–31st are paid Wednesday, November 25. If you started benefits before May 1997, or you get both Social Security and SSI, your Social Security arrives November 3.

Why is my Social Security payment coming on a Tuesday in November?

Veterans Day, November 11, 2026, falls on a Wednesday, and it is a federal holiday. Social Security says that when a scheduled Wednesday is a federal holiday, it pays on the first earlier day that is not a holiday. That moves the payment for birthdays on the 1st–10th to Tuesday, November 10.

When do SSI payments come in November and December 2026?

SSI normally arrives on the 1st of the month. November 1 is a Sunday, so the payment is made Friday, October 30. The December payment arrives Tuesday, December 1. January 1, 2027 is a holiday, so the January payment is made Thursday, December 31. That means you can get two SSI payments in December. It is not an error.

What if my payment does not show up on the expected date?

Social Security asks you to allow three additional mailing days before you contact the agency. Check your bank account or card first, then wait those days. If the money still has not arrived, call Social Security or visit a local office and have your Social Security number ready.

How is my Social Security payment date decided?

For people who started benefits on or after May 1, 1997, the date comes from the birthday of the person whose Social Security number the benefit is paid under. Birthdays on the 1st–10th are paid the second Wednesday, the 11th–20th the third Wednesday, and the 21st–31st the fourth Wednesday of each month.

Will my payment change when the 2027 COLA starts?

Not in November or December. The 3.6% cost-of-living adjustment for 2027 is expected to show up in the payment you receive in January 2027, the same timing as last year's COLA. Your payment date stays the same. SSA will mail a notice with your new amount.
