Key points from our 2026 Maine data, compiled from the official sources listed at the end of this page:
- New for 2026: a 2% surcharge on Maine taxable income above $1,000,000 (single), $750,000 (MFS) or $1,500,000 (joint/HOH), enacted in the 2026 supplemental budget. It is shown here as a 9.15% top bracket (7.15% + 2%).
- The 2026 brackets are inflation-indexed. Standard deduction is $15,700 single/MFS, $23,550 HOH, $31,400 joint (MRS revised schedule, May 20, 2026, after Maine conformed to the higher standard deduction). Extra for 65+/blind: $2,050 unmarried, $1,650 married.

- Dependents get a refundable dependent exemption tax credit, not a deduction: $305 per dependent ($610 under age 6) in 2025. It phases out by $20 per $500 of AGI over $100,000 single, $125,000 HOH, $150,000 joint or $75,000 MFS. The 2026 inflation-adjusted credit had not been published and may be slightly higher.
- Maine decoupled from the federal tips, overtime, senior and car-loan-interest deductions. The pension income deduction is up to $49,824 for 2026 (per the 2026 1040ES-ME).
Local income tax: none. Cities and counties in Maine do not levy their own income tax in our 2026 data.

Is this Maine tax estimate exact?
It is an estimate. We apply Maine’s 2026 brackets, standard deduction, exemptions and credits to your income, starting from federal adjusted gross income. We do not model every Maine subtraction, credit or phase-out, and federal figures leave out the AMT and the QBI deduction. Use it for planning and check your actual return or Maine’s tax agency for final numbers.
