About Easter
Easter is a movable feast. Under the ecclesiastical rules described by the U.S. Naval Observatory, Easter is the first Sunday after the first ecclesiastical full moon on or after March 21, the fixed date used for the vernal equinox. The ecclesiastical moon comes from tables rather than astronomical observation, and Easter can never be earlier than March 22 or later than April 25.
We compute the date with the Anonymous Gregorian algorithm (also known as the Meeus/Jones/Butcher method), which gives Western (Catholic and Protestant) Easter. Orthodox churches use the Julian calendar for this calculation, so their Easter is often on a different Sunday. In the next 10 years Easter falls in March in 2027, 2032 and 2035; the other years it is in April. Good Friday, two days earlier, is Friday, March 26, 2027.
Easter is not one of the 11 legal public holidays listed in 5 U.S.C. 6103, but it always falls on a Sunday.
