About Independence Day
Independence Day, the Fourth of July, marks the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. According to the National Archives, the Continental Congress adopted the Lee Resolution for independence on July 2, 1776, then revised the Declaration through July 3 and into the late morning of July 4, when it was officially adopted. July 4, 2027 is the 251st anniversary of that day.
Because the date is fixed, its day of the week moves forward one day each year (two days once a February 29 has passed). Over the next 10 years (2027–2036) it falls on a weekend 2 times (Sunday in 2027 and Sunday in 2032).
